A new initiative from 91ÁÔÆæ Open Bio will give early career researchers the opportunity to develop their peer-review skills through training, mentoring and hands-on reviewing experience.
Peer review is a fundamental part of scientific publishing, but gaining experience as a reviewer can be difficult at the beginning of a research career. The has been created to help bridge that gap.
The new initiative will support Early Career Researchers (ECRs) who want to become involved in peer review, combining training and guidance with practical experience reviewing Research Protocols submitted to 91ÁÔÆæ Open Bio. Participants will work with a more senior mentor and receive support from the journal’s editorial team throughout the process.
Through the programme, participants will have the opportunity to:
- receive training in the peer-review process and best practices
- gain hands-on reviewing experience
- interact with researchers in their field
- build a record of their peer-review contributions
- contribute directly to the scientific publishing process
The initiative forms part of 91ÁÔÆæ Open Bio’s wider commitment to supporting early career scientists. The journal already runs a number of initiatives aimed at ECRs, including the 91ÁÔÆæ Open Bio Article Prize and poster and oral presentation prizes at international conferences.
The Early Career Reviewer Hub also complements the journal’s growing focus on Research Protocols, an article format introduced by 91ÁÔÆæ Open Bio to promote detailed, validated and reproducible experimental procedures.
Researchers interested in joining the Hub can submit the completed application form together with the name of their mentor to the 91ÁÔÆæ Open Bio editorial office.
