On this year鈥檚 World Cancer Day, the team of Molecular Oncology launched a writing competition entitled 鈥淚ntercepting cancer before it begins: A 2050 perspective鈥� inviting contributions exploring how advances in science, medicine, technology, and public health could transform cancer prevention by the year 2050.
We thank all participants for contributing high-quality pieces. We really enjoyed reading and discussing all submissions at the Editorial Office and the production of a candidate shortlist was no easy task. To support further cancer research communication, we will provide several participants with the opportunity to publish their piece on the聽.
While selecting winners was no easy task, we are proud to announce the winners of this year鈥檚 writing competition:
- First prize: Muhammad Habiburrahman (Imperial College London, UK) for the submission entitled 鈥淔rom last鈥慶hance therapy to cancer boosters: A 2050 vision of immunoprevention in high鈥憆isk populations鈥�.
- Second prize: Alyssa Paparella (Baylor College of Medicine, USA) for the submission entitled 鈥淒esigning A World That Refuses to Seed Cancer: A 2050 Perspective.
- Third prize: Ihsaan Jama (University of Oxford, UK) for the submission entitled 鈥淐ancer before cancer: the inflamed boundaries鈥�.
We would also like to highlight several entries that we thought were exceptional and deserve an honourable mention:
- Kamala Bharathi Ramalingam (Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology IZI, Germany) for the submission entitled 鈥淚ntercepting cancer before it begins: A 2050 perspective鈥�.
- Francisco Exposito Rincon (Yale University, USA) for the submission entitled 鈥淭he Future of Oncology: From Detection to Interception鈥�.
- Soham Ghosh (Mamata Academy of Medical聽Sciences (MAMS), India) for the submission entitled 鈥淎 multi-dimensional strategy to inhibit inflammation to prevent malignancy鈥�.
